Landis Private Reserve

Finca Isabel is a 195-acre private reserve located in Chiriqui Province,
northern Panama. Perched at 3,000 feet of elevation in the gentle
mountains along the Costa Rican border, the reserve features spectacular
views of the Volcan Barù and the International Park La amistad, three
unnamed streams, a fragrant array of flowers and fruit-bearing trees, and
a wide variety of wildlife, including more that 50 species of birds and 3
species of monkey. This very special finca is being managed for
conservation of the land, protection of threatened
species, and promotion of environmental education throughout Central
America.

Chiriqui Province has similar areas of protected habitat set aside
following the 1992 Biodiversity Preservation and Protection of Wild Areas
in Central America treaty. These include the Wild Life Chorogo Refuge,
the Wild Life La Barqueta Refuge, and the Wilson Botanical Garden in Costa
Rica which is also a part of La Amistad Biosphere Reserve. Alongside
Finca Isabel, these lands are providing much-needed refuge for local
plants and wildlife threatened by 50 years of ranching, timber-cutting,
and erosion.

Finca Isabel is located about 45 miles north of David City, east towards
the mountains from Paso Canoa, near the little town of Breñon, population
648. It has an asphalt road that connects it to the Panama-Costa Rica
border towards Rio Sereno, and is close to the Mesoamerican Biological
Road. The people of the region are mainly farmers, raising rice, beans,
corn, plantain and tomato in addition to cattle.

If you are interested in visiting the conservation area, please contact us
